I had been eyeing this fabric at Joann for some time, and initially thought of M6886. I’m glad that I decided against horizontal stripes tight across my thighs and ass, and went with this Vogue wrap dress instead. The dress is suitable for maternity and non-maternity use, which is even better!
Pattern: Vogue 8896, view A
Fabric: Black and white variegated stripe knit (JoAnn, 2.5 yards)
Notions: thread, stay tape
Cost: Pattern on sale at JoAnn for $4.99; fabric cost $16
Sizing, alterations: Cut size 10, based on some preliminary blog searches I did on this pattern. I lengthened the skirt by 2″. Could probably get away with only 2 yards of fabric if no pattern matching required– but the fabric definitely needs to be 60″ wide!
Time: approximately 3 hours
Likes, dislikes, notes for next time: LOVE it! Maternity or non the sizing is great– maybe consider lengthening bodice by 1/2″ to 1″ and using one size larger for the sleeves on the next go-round. The pattern was super easy to follow, came together quickly and I love how it fits– will definitely make again. Also, pretty darn proud of my first attempt at pattern-matching 🙂
